We are always willing to help, but we urge these four simple tips to test your furnace before giving us a call:
- Thermostat setting – The most important job of a furnace is to create a comfy and cozy environment for your home. So when it begins snowing for good, make sure you’ve turned your thermostat over to ‘heat.’
- Furnace switch – Your furnace power is composed by a switch that looks like a traditional light switch, and should be turned on. If it’s not on, flip it on and sit a few minutes. Many furnaces have a built-in time delay and your furnace won’t start immediately after turning on the switch.
- Filter – Furnace filters are an imperative part to your system. Not only does it sift out particles, dust and other contaminants, it impacts your furnace’s efficiency as well. We recommend changing out filters every three months to see the finest results.
- Circuit breaker – It’s common that the breaker labled for your furnace has been tripped. Go to your circuit breaker panel and check to see if the switch has been tripped. If it has, cycle it by turning it off and then back on. You may have to wait a few minutes for the time-delay to pass before your furnace turns back on. If you do this and your furnace still isn’t starting, give us a call and we can help figure out what is happening with your furnace so we can get it back up and running.
