What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Fras-Air/General Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Hillsborough always talks about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is optional and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Fras-Air/General Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning that our experts are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Fras-Air/General Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only specific areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:
